How tidy is your inbox?
These are my 6 simple rules to keep my inbox tidy, organised, and stress-free.
File or delete old emails
File or Delete old emails. Don’t delete everything, if you think you might need it later, file it away. You can easily find old emails using the search bar when you need to find something. Keeping your inbox clutter-free of old emails will allow you to focus on the newer important ones.
Develop an email routine
I have wasted so much time in the past keeping my emails open and interrupting tasks to read new emails. I now check my emails in the morning, lunchtime, and late afternoon. I will also check for new emails between tasks. I have turned off my notifications.
Take immediate action
Do it, delete/file it, or delegate it. I don't even bother to look at the next email in my inbox till I have dealt with the current one. Taking action might mean I plan a task to complete a required action, later on, otherwise, I file emails that contain information I might need in the future, delete it if not. If the task is something that requires someone else's input, delegate it.
Address emails correctly
Address emails to people whom you need to directly communicate with. Only CC in people that really need to know the information, I personally leave any emails that I have been CC'ed into for last.
Unsubscribe
If you receive emails like newsletters that you no longer need or have time to read, unsubscribe to them.
